Holy Empire of Gestaltis
The Holy Empire of Gestaltis has, since time immemorial, been a hodge-podge of struggling principalities held together and forged into a nation by the will of a line of strong emperors who enforced the state religion (that of Celestialism) with a firm hand. The Empire lays claim to a sizable chunk of the region and contains 108 separate principalities whose peoples speak 7 different dialects of Gestaltin. Before the war, the Empire was becoming more unified and expansionist – spreading the state religion through the region with gusto. The Empire was also one of the forerunners in new technologies – making sizable advances in the area of chaostech. It is unfortunate that Gestaltis was one of the hardest hit areas by the war.
Gestaltis was the focus of a series of bombing campaigns by their enemies during the Last War and, as a result, much of the landscape of the Empire has been twisted and warped beyond use. This has led to considerable unrest in the country and almost continual civil strife since the Last War. Principality turned on principality after the war, seeking access to precious resources. The Imperial household still rules the nation in name but has almost no power to enforce it’s edicts. One would think that an enterprising enough exterior force could move into the country and take over but such attempts have met with considerable resistance and outright condemnation from the more stable countries of the region – no one wants another international war. It seems that the Council of Nations is content to let the civil war in the Empire burn itself out – however long that might take. The civil war has been going on, more or less unabated, for about 75 years now. Some countries fear that, should the Empire ever be forged into a united nation again, the entire region will soon thereafter be dealing with a new super power forged into a dangerous weapon by over 7 decades of war.
Gestaltis has its fair share of Talents and has a single academy – The Imperial Academy of Talent. The academy’s leadership and policies are in constant flux and the whole institute is rife with intrigue and backstabbing. Talents who successfully navigate their way through the quagmire that is the IAT are never to be trifled with.
